Does as expected, need to hold on the drill with both hands if splitting kiln dried hard wood. Soft wood worked well.

ROBERT W E.
ALL I CAN SAY IS IT WORKS AS ADVERTISED. NO MAJOR PROBLEMS. AS EVERYONE WHO WORKS WITH WOOD KNOWS, IT WORKS BETTER ON SOME KINDS THAN OTHERS. VERY GOOD.
Michael H.
Worked great I was surprised that it did what an expensive wood splitter does for a lot less effort
Steve H.

Works as advertised, worth the cost.

This fire drill bit from Carlton Hardware worked amazingly. It cut the time in half to split wood compared the traditional axe method. I highly recommend this to everyone who ever splits wood.
Tim D.
It splits wood with ease! It works great and it's rather easy to use. Used it from the top and it split the wood effortlessly. Can't say enough great things about the drill bit from Carlton Hardware.
Gerald S.
I totally love this thing. Starting fires is much easier now that I can make kindling. Make sure you have the drill to back it. I had to pull out my old Dewalt 18volt. My smaller drills couldn’t do it. If you’re looking for easy, this is it.
Chris O.
Works great with all kinds of wood. Oak and walnut split with minimal effort. Definitely is better than swinging splitting ax all day. Split about 1 Rick in 30 minutes with this drill bit, with a 20v cordless Dewalt.

Used to make kindling out of chopped wood worked very well with 18 volt drill. Great for camping and the outdoors.
Latifa D.
I freaking love this thing. You will need a hammer-drill. Just work it down the log and you shouldn't bind up but if you do, don't go in reverse. Its a two piece bit and will unscrew. Other than that this drill bit is so amazing!!!

I was pretty skeptical of this at first. My dad told me about it so I grabbed one. But after splitting a few logs with it I was extremely impressed, it works pretty damn good. The logs I got delivered were just a bit too big to burn well in my fireplace, so I take a load in and split them with the drill and life is so much easier. It even works really well to make kindling.

This is my second time to purchase one of these kindling splitting bits and let me tell you , pleased doesn't quite sum it up on being pleased with my purchase. Wow is almost all I can say. It's very well built and man is it tough. My first purchase was a bit of a failure in a sense, it also gave me the insight of what to look for in these splitters. I made my second choice based off of what I learned from the first purchase. If I can save anyone a few steps I can and do recommend this particular splitter from Carlton Hardware. It actually does what it has been designed to do. If I had 4 thumbs I'd give it 4 thumbs up .

Overall I am really pleased with this product. I use it every time I process some wood to bring into the house for our small wood burning stove. Then I leave it by the wood box inside if I need to make more kindling. I think this would work great for camping also to make some smaller kindling to get your fire started. There is a bit of a learning curve and I would recommend reading my tips below before you buy and use.
Tip 1 - You must use this in a drill that has some Power. I tried to use it in a smaller 12v Dewalt Drill and it maxed out the drill. I have a Kobalt 24v drill that has no problem with it though. Also make sure to use the side handle for your drill, if don't you will probably twist/break your wrist. Also any plug in drill will probably work.
Tip 2 - Do Not Drill This Into The Center of Your Log. Drill on the edges of your log, it will split much easier that way and help to prevent the tool getting stuck.
Tip 3 - Avoid knots like the plague. It will get stuck if you try to go through a knot.
Tip 4 - If you drill on the left side of the log/wood then it will take advantage of the rotation of the drill. If you are drilling on the ground then put your knee or foot against the log to prevent it from spinning, or you can angle it a bit so it rotates into the ground. Best situation you have a table/station that you can use that maybe even has a stop built into it.
Tip 5 - Works best to break down already split logs into smaller kindling or smaller logs to fit into a small stove. I don't have a heavy duty hammer drill to test out its operation on larger logs. For what I need it works great.

I recently received this drill bit from Carlton Hardware, loaded it into my drill (just a cordless DeWalt), grabbed a hunk of firewood (lodgepole pine) and went to town. In seconds I had it split into five small pieces - no hatchet, no need to go outside, no whacking involved, no missing and getting your fingers. Not sure how it would work with other woods, but boy, for pine, it worked wonders!
